The best football prospect from the state, Bismarck High lineman Greg Eslinger, appears headed to the University of Minnesota. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound Eslinger, who helped lead the Demons to the Class AAA state title, visited the school earlier this fall.
Recruits cannot sign letters of intent until the first Wednesday in February, but there was little doubt Minnesota was the front-runner for Eslinger all along.
The last Division I recruit from North Dakota, Lisbon lineman Dan Kwapinski, also signed with the Gophers two years ago.
Before that Fargo North linebacker Sean Hoffman enjoyed a productive career at the U.
